EDTC 5639 - W1 F2 2011 Technology Thinking

Professional Development Presentation

This presentation is an Introduction of Technology Integration in the classroom created for current educators. I plan to give participants a basic understanding of Technology Integration and explain how it enhances higher-order thinking skills, give them examples of integration projects and finally provide them with an exercise and peer forum to help them create their own integration project.

My original idea for this project was to make it an in person presentation (like a seminar), however as part of this project I polled a group of educators on Technology Integration and was surprised to find that most (85%) were more interested in online training as opposed to seminars or workshops.

View the survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PJF8J8F

So instead, I have decided to create a brief online site with the presentation information on Technology Integration for participants to read allowing for participant comments, a forum to upload their own TI project ideas for peer review.

The concept being that educators can sign up for the presentation at which time they would receive password access to the site. On the site is all of the presentation information for them to read on their own time and links to additional reading if they so choose.

At the end of each section they can leave comments on their reading and/or comment on other participants comments much like an online discussion forum.

A brief homework assignment to come up with 2-3 technology integration projects to present to peers will be given and then a predetermined time would be set for an online skype session with all participants and the presenter. This will be an opportunity for the group to discuss any of the information presented so far and also to pitch ideas to peers for feedback.

Participants will be asked to create and post a Technology Integration project on the site and participants will be encouraged to critique each others final concepts in an online discussion forum.

Finally a link to a survey will be provided for the participants to fill out for the presentation.

Presentation requirements:

Participants: The presentation is open to any educators.

Being that it is online, participants can reside anywhere as long as they have access to the technical requirements. Group sizes will be kept small to allow for the overall participation time for the presentation to be limited to 2-3 hours total.

Technical requirements: Computer with Internet access. Skype account.
